The Nazirite regulations are listed in chapter 6 and refers to a person who is consecrated to divine service for a specified period of time as the result of a vow. Samson is likely the most famous Nazirite. Take note of the process of "setting this person apart". What is involved?

It has been a year since God brought the Israelites out of Egypt and they are finally moving out towards the land promised to them through Abraham. Notice all of the problems that plague God's people as they set out on this journey: problems with resources, leadership, and in-fighting. God's patience is clearly on display.

Two key events happen in these chapters, particularly the people's decision not to enter the land (based on the report from those sent to explore the land). It is here, in chapter 14, that God "exiles" the people to the desert which is referred to in Psalm 95. The second significant act of rebellion is in chapter 16:3 where Moses is accused of acting superior to everyone else. That is an interesting accusation in light of the comment about Moses in Num 12:3.

Chapter 20 tells of a significant event in the life of Moses with the striking of the rock twice. Does God's punishment seem harsh? Why did God punish Moses by not allowing him to lead the people into the promised land (v.12)?
