These chapters focus on the concept of being clean or unclean in a variety of areas of Israelite life and culture like food, clothing, disease, etc. It was very important for priests to be able to define what or who was clean or unclean emphasizing Israel's "set apartness" from the other nations.

Includes the establishment of the Day of Atonement which came about by the death of Nadab and Abihu (Aaron's sons) in chapter 10. Also take note in chapter 17 on the handling and meaning of blood.

Here are Guthrie's comments on chapter 19: "it is one of the most practical chapters in the OT. Prescribing ways God's people were to treat one another, these guidelines set the Israelites apart as very distinct from the pagan peoples of the land of Canaan and showed that they had a special covenant with God. God shapes the way His people live in relationship with others.
