"Lord, you reign with righteousness and justice as the foundation of your throne. I am put to shame when I worship and boast in idols that I've created in my heart: reputation, success, ministry. You are the Most High over all the earth and exalted far above all of my petty, little false gods. Help me to hate evil as you guard my life and deliver me from the evil one. I rejoice in you, my God and Savior. I praise your holy name this day."

I find God's reasoning for not allowing David to build his temple fascinating: "You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight."

Guthrie's explanation of the harsh words about God's enemies in Psalm 109: "Understand that the psalmist was calling for God's judgment on wickedness and for justice for those being oppressed. He appealed to God on the basis of His character as a holy God of justice, asking Him to act on behalf of the person to whom He had made powerful promises."

"I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me." Derek Kinder - "A weaned child no longer frets for what it used to find indispensable...it is freedom from the nagging of self-seeking, and...from the bondage of delusive frets and fears."
